Date Title
25 Sep 2008Report release and roundtable meeting of "A Comparative Study of Continuing Disclosure in Hong Kong and the PRC (the report)"
On 25 September 2008, the Institute organised the report release and roundtable meeting at the InterContinental Hotel Beijing Financial Street, Beijing. More than 50 participants with representatives from China Securities and Regulatory Commission, Ministry of Commerce, Shanghai Stock Exchange, Hong Kong Stock Exchange, China Institute of Certified Public Accountants, board secretaries and their representatives from 15 H-share companies, academics and professional practitioners attended the roundtable discussion.

Institute Members Yuan Lu FCIS FCS, A and H share board secretaries Li Zhi Dong from Guangzhou Shipyard International Company Limited and Ye Yue Mang from China Shipping Container Lines Company Limited, respectively shared their views on the compliance inconsistencies and the differences in enforcement between the two markets. In particular, they raised that the mainland market should learn and adopt the professional qualification membership requirement for board secretaries in the mainland, i.e., Membership of the Institute (Chartered Secretaries) to enhance the corporate governance and compliance quality of the listed companies in the mainland.

The issues raised attracted the responses from the mainland regulators. The Institute would like to thank all participants attending the roundtable and to share their views on both the report and practical experience of dual listing in Hong Kong and the PRC.
