The Hong Kong Institute of Chartered Secretaries (HKICS or the Institute) is a professional body which qualifies people who have roles as company secretaries, governance advisers, non-executive directors, risk managers, compliance managers and more. Its membership ensures individual remains at the forefront of global developments and best practice in governance.
The Institute is the China Division of The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA) which is the premier global qualifying organisation for professionals aspiring to become a Chartered Secretary and Chartered Governance Professional.
The dual qualifications, Chartered Secretary (CS) and Chartered Governance Professional (CGP), are internationally recognised and highly portable. They represent members’ highest standards of governance practice and ethical behaviour, as well as strengthening professional standing of members into the 21st century. Both qualifications also serve as better representation for members who have already been involved in diverse governance roles.
Route to Membership: Student > Graduate > Associate > Fellow
Upon successful election, an Associate or a Fellow become a member of both ICSA and the Institute and can call themselves as a Chartered Secretary. All members are obliged to uphold the highest standards of governance practice and ethical behavior.
Students and Graduates are not members of neither ICSA nor the Institute pursuant to ICSA’s Charter and Byelaws and the Institute’s Articles of Association.
Students registered with the Institute can apply for election to membership subject to the below requirements:
- Complete the International Qualifying Scheme (IQS) and become a Graduate; and
- Have relevant working experience before, during or after being registered as the Institute’s student; and
- Be a fit and proper person in respect of both character and standing.
An Associate and a Fellow, with dual memberships of ICSA and the Institute, is allowed to use the designatory letters set out below:
