IMPORTANT NOTICE - Studentship applications can be submitted at anytime during the year. However, if applicants wish to sit for up-coming examinations, they must submit their studentship applications by the following deadlines:
  • 31st January for applicants wishing to sit for the following June examination; or
  • 31st July for applicants wishing to sit for the following December examination.

Entry Requirements
The Institute's examinations can be attempted only by registered students of the Institute. In order to become a registered student an applicant must comply with the following:

1. Application for registration must be made via the prescribed application form obtainable from the Institute.
2. Applicants must meet the entry requirements of the IQS and must be holders of any of the following qualifications:
  (i) Recognized university degree;
  (ii) Recognized professional qualifications;
3. Every applicant for registration must be recommended as fit and proper for admission to the examinations of the Institute by a member of the Institute or by a person of professional standing.
4. The decision of the Institute on all applications shall be final.

How to Register As a Student
Applicants are required to complete and return the prescribed application form in person to the Secretariat with following documents:

1. Original and photocopies of all educational and professional certificates and transcripts in support of the application. 
2. A recent photograph in the size of 25mm x 30mm
3. Registration fees: payment can be made by EPS, cheque (payable to "HKICS") or credit card.

At submission of the above documents, the applicant must present his/her Hong Kong Identity Card/PRC Identity Card to certify his/her identity.

Notes
a. Registration by post will only be accepted if copies of documents enclosed are certified by either an Associate/Fellow member of HKICS or Government District Officer. In this case a copy of the applicant's HKID card/PRC ID card must be enclosed. 
b. HKICS Secretariat Office hours:
Monday to Friday : 09:00 - 18:00
Saturday : 09:00 - 13:00

Studentship Renewal

Student renewal fees are due each year on the anniversary of the date of registration, by then the Secretariat will send a renewal notice reminding students to renew their studentship.

Renewal debit note will be sent to students two months prior to the expiry date. SMS and email reminders will be sent one month after the studentship expiry date. A final SMS reminder will be sent to students fourteen days prior to the studentship removal. Students whose renewal fees have been overdue for two months will be automatically removed from the student register. Students need to re-register and pay a re-registration fee to continue their studentship thereafter.

Once removed from the register, students are not allowed to sit for examinations and are no longer entitled to use the Institute's services until such time as they have been re-registered.

Closing Dates for Applications

Applications can be submitted at anytime. However, if the applicant wishes to sit for up-coming examinations, the following dates must be observed:

  • 31st January for applicants wishing to sit for the following June examination; or
  • 31st July for applicants wishing to sit for the following December examination.

 

 

Late Studentship Registration Policy on taking corresponding examinations

With effect from 1 August 2010, an administrative charge will be applied on studentship registration submitted within the following specific periods stated below for taking corresponding examinations in June and December:

Re-registration

A student whose registration was removed or withdrawn may apply for reinstatement of their original registration or new registration as a new student. The Institute may, in its absolute discretion and without assigning any reason therefor, approve or decline such application.

Re-instatement of a student's original registration and all his/her examination results and approved exemptions at the time of the student's removal/ withdrawal shall normally be granted. Students are also required to settle any outstanding exemption payment under the Foundation and Pre-Professional programmes of the Hong Kong Qualifying Scheme.

Applications for new registration from students whose de-registration period is more than 3 years shall normally be granted. But students' past examination results and previously approved exemptions will not be reinstated in such circumstances.

(Effective date: 1 August 2004)

This policy applies to students who registered before 1 August 2003 and who have not completed the Foundation and Pre-Professional Programmes of the Hong Kong Qualifying Scheme on or before 31 December 2007

  • By 31 December 2007, students who do not complete the Foundation and Pre-Professional Programmes under the Hong Kong Qualifying Scheme but currently studying a degree programme or equivalent programmes are allowed to maintain their studentship registration, provided that the students settled their annual renewal fees.
  • By 31 December 2007, students who do not complete the Foundation and Pre-Professional Programmes under the Hong Kong Qualifying Scheme through the Feeder Programme or by other means of studies approved by the Institute, their studentship registration will be removed

Studentship Extension

Students who would like to apply for studentship extension must submit written requests to the Exemptions Sub-Committee for consideration and approval of the studentship extension with the following conditions:

  • Students should have attended examinations during the last registration year; and
  • Studentship annual renewal fees should be duly paid within the time given. (Effective Date: 1 January 2006)

Dormant Students

Background:

Dormant Students are those who have not entered any HKICS examinations for four consecutive diets will be removed from HKICS student register. Under certain circumstances such as further study or major illness, a student may be permitted to stay dormant for a limited period. (Source: HKICS Students Handbook Item 5.6)
1. (a) For dormant students who have registered their studentship for six years and above, but have not taken any examinations for four consecutive examination diets up to December 2007, their studentship registration will NOT be extended and that their studentship registration will be removed.
(Example: A student who registered in 1998 who had not taken any examinations since 2003, he/she must take at least one examination by December 2007. His/her studentship registration will not be extended and thus be removed if failing to do so.)
(b) De-registered dormant students can re-register with the Institute as students by paying the re-registration fee and complete the required procedures for the studentship registration.
2. For dormant students who have registered their studentship for less than six years but have taken at least one examination by December 2007, their studentship registration can only be extended ONCE for another TWO years. A written explanation must be submitted to the Exemptions Sub-Committee for consideration and approval.
[Example : A student, registered in 2001 who had not taken any examinations since 2003, he or she must take at least one examination by December 2007. By the end of the designated period (i.e. 2007 - six years from the first registration, they need to apply for studentship extension), their studentship can only be extended once for two years until 2009.]
3. Students are required to enter at least one examination diet within the first two years of registration.
This policy will be effective from 1 August 2006.
